A Hybrid of Network and Application Layer Multicast for Mobile IPv6 Networks

چکیده
In this paper we evaluate a spectrum of various approaches to group communication for MIPv6 nodes: Network Layer Multicast (IP multicast), Application Layer Multicast(ALM) and a hybrid approach. Based on a previous comparison of the two extremes, we focus on the hybrid solution and we propose a number of optimizations. Our results show that although IP Multicast is still the best option in terms of network performance, due to deployment considerations, the hybrid approach is a more attractive option.

An Overview of Group Key Management Issues in IEEE 802.16e Networks
The computer industry has defined the IEEE 802.16 family of standards that will enable mobile devices to access a broadband network as an alternative to digital subscriber line technology. As the mobile devices join and leave a network, security measures must be taken to ensure the safety of the network against unauthorized usage by encryption and group key management. IEEE 802.16e uses Multica...
متن کاملExtending Mobile-IPv6 with Multicast to Support Mobile Networks in IPv6
This paper addresses the problems of routing datagrams to nodes located in an IPv6 mobile network. A mobile network is a network that is changing its point of attachment dynamically such as a network deployed in an aircraft, a boat, or a car. The IETF Mobile-IPv6 protocol that has been developed to support mobile nodes is unable to support mobile networks efficiently. In fact, we show that Mobi...
متن کاملEfficient Overlay Multicast Routing for Hybrid Networks
Multicast can be done on link layer, IP layer, and application layer respectively. The application level overlay multicast is easier to deploy as compared to non overlay multicast but at the cost of efficiency. However, the utilization of these approaches is limited by current Internet architecture. Overlay and non overlay integrated solution have not yet been proposed for hybrid networks. In t...

The ability to discover services in Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET) is a major prerequisite. Cluster basedcross layer intelligent service discovery for MANET (CBISD) is cluster based architecture, caching ofsemantic details of services and intelligent forwarding using network layer mechanisms. The cluster basedarchitecture using semantic knowledge provides scalability and accuracy. Also, the mini...
متن کاملSeamless Handover and QoS mechanisms for efficient DVB-H and Mobile IPv6 integration
Seamless handover and QoS provision of applications in converged DVB-H and Mobile IPv6 networks are discussed. The goal is to support efficiently interactive mobile broadcast/multicast services using unidirectional broadcast media (DVB-H) combined with bidirectional mobile access technologies (UMTS, WLAN, WIMAX) in heterogeneous Mobile IPv6 environments. In particular, the focus is: Handover st...
